Police Arrest Georgia Trucker After Crash in Decatur County

December 15, 2018

BAINBRIDGE, GA. – According to an online news report from thepostsearchlight.com, police arrested a Georgia trucker December 10 after he crashed his tractor-trailer in Decatur County, Georgia.*

The crash occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. on December 10. A tractor-trailer traveling on the Highway 84 Bypass in Bainbridge, Georgia, crashed into a guardrail near the West Shotwell Street exit. The tractor-trailer then rolled over. The driver of the tractor-trailer, who has not been identified, was able to escape from the cab of the truck and was not injured.

It is not yet clear how the accident occurred, and it does not appear any other vehicles were involved. Authorities at the scene arrested the driver of the tractor-trailer for driving with a suspended license and failure to maintain a lane. Bainbridge Public Safety Capt. Jack Bunting says it is uncommon for truckers to driver with suspended licenses, but during the holiday season, carriers that do not have enough drivers become willing to take risks.

Officials say the guardrail is damaged, and a temporary barrier has been put in place until permanent repairs can be made. Bunting said the accident would be damaging for the tractor-trailer company at issue, which was not named, because the guardrails could cost about $2,000, and the emergency response required for the scene was about $12,000.

Bainbridge Public Safety and Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene. Georgia State Patrol has taken over the investigation and will work with the state Department of Transportation for replacement guardrails, which can take about two weeks to replace. No further information has been released at this time.
