December 11, 2018

JACKSON COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report from ajc.com, a head-on vehicle crash on Interstate 85 in Jackson County, Georgia, killed both drivers. The collision resulted from a driver traveling the wrong way on the interstate.*

The crash occurred on I-85 in Jackson County. A 2005 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the interstate and struck a 2006 Honda Civic head-on. Both drivers died at the scene. No passengers were in either vehicle.

The driver of the Ford has been identified as 32-year-old Carlos Cobb, of Gainesville, Georgia. The identity of the driver of the Honda has not yet been released, pending notification of the victim’s family by county officials.

It is not yet clear why Cobb was driving in the wrong lanes of the interstate. No information was reported about whether a toxicology analysis would be conducted. Georgia State Patrol is investigating the collision and has not released additional information at this time.

Head-on vehicle collisions represent a small number of the accidents that occur every year in the United States, but they account for a larger percentage of traffic deaths in the country. About 2 percent of all the accidents in the U.S. involve head-on collisions, but these types of accidents cause approximately 10 percent of the nation’s crash-related deaths. Because of the force and nature of these accidents, they lead to more serious injuries and more deaths than many other types of vehicle accidents.
