December 14, 2018

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA. – A 17-year-old boy killed in a car crash in Cherokee County, Georgia, was a high school senior, according to an online news report from wsbtv.com. The crash also injured three other teenagers.*

The crash occurred on Old Orange Mill Road in Cherokee County. It is not clear how the crash happened or whether more than one vehicle was involved. Officials say a 17-year-old male who was riding in the front passenger’s seat of a vehicle died in the crash.

His name has now been released by local media but withheld from this story for privacy reasons. The principal of Creekview High School, Dr. Mark Merges, has confirmed the teen was a senior at the school and said he was an energetic athlete who was always willing to help his classmates.

The driver of the same vehicle, another 17 year old, and a passenger in the back seat, also 17 years old, were seriously injured in the crash and transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. They have not been identified, and their current conditions are not known. A second passenger in the back seat of the same vehicle, a 15 year old who has also not been identified, sustained minor injuries and was also transported to the hospital.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office says the car the teens were traveling in somehow left the roadway and struck a tree. Deputies said a small fire broke out after the crash. Officials believe speed might have been a factor in the accident, but this information has not been confirmed. The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is using 3D radar technology to map the scene and is continuing its investigation. No additional information has been reported at this time.
