Man Dies at Hospital After Crashing Car into Tree in Augusta, Georgia

AUGUSTA, GA. – According to an online news report from, a man who was involved in a car crash in November died in the hospital December 3 in Augusta, Georgia. The man was seriously injured after crashing his car into a tree.*

On November 20, 47-year-old Arden Jackson Jr. was traveling west on Travis Road in Augusta. Near Kingsgate Drive, his pickup left the roadway and struck a tree. Jackson was partially ejected from the truck and suffered critical injuries. He was transported to AU Medical Center.

Jackson was still hospitalized at AU Medical Center when he was pronounced dead on December 3. The Richmond County Coroner said his cause of death was anoxic brain injury from blunt force trauma. It is not yet clear how the accident occurred. No additional information has been reported at this time. 

Richmond County is located on the eastern border of the state of Georgia. In 1995, the City of Augusta consolidated governments with Richmond County, forming one entity known as Augusta-Richmond County. The county has an estimated population of 202,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 20, Interstate 520, U.S. Route 1, U.S. Route 25, U.S. Route 78, and U.S. Route 278. 

During the five-year period between 2012 and 2016, vehicle accidents in Richmond County increased dramatically, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In 2012, a total of 333 vehicle accidents occurred in the county. This number increased significantly in 2013 to 1,315 then leaped to 8,879 in 2014. By 2016, the total number of accidents in Richmond County was 9,957.
