Five-Vehicle Crash Sends Two to Hospital in Philadelphia

December 08, 2018

PHILADELPHIA, PA. – According to an online news story from 6abc.com, a five-vehicle wreck in Philadelphia sent two people to the hospital December 4 in Philadelphia. The cause of the crash is not yet clear.*

The crash occurred at approximately 4:45 a.m. on December 4 on Roosevelt Boulevard in Philadelphia. A box truck and four other cars somehow collided in the southbound lanes of the Roosevelt Boulevard Extension, near Interstate 76 in the East Falls neighborhood. No details have been released about the cause or nature of the crash.

The box truck veered off the road after impact, ripping off a 40-yard section of guardrail along the roadway and coming to a rest on the median, partially extended in the northbound lanes. The truck then began leaking fuel into the road. The driver of the truck had to be extricated from the vehicle, and a crane was called in to lift the truck off the median.

Two people in total were transported to hospitals. One driver was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition. Police said this driver was 28 years old but could not say whether he or she was the box truck driver or the driver of another vehicle. It is not clear what hospital the second person went to, and his or her current medical condition is not known.

The roadway was shut down for several hours while crews tended to the victims, investigated, and cleared the scene. Pennsylvania authorities are continuing to investigate this collision and have not yet released additional information.
