Man Struck, Killed by Two Semi-Trucks on Texas Highway

December 08, 2018

JONES COUNTY, TX. – A man was struck by two semi-trucks in a Texas highway while waiting for his car to be towed, according to an online news report from ktxs.com. The man died at the scene.*

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on November 30, 26-year-old Dylan Thomas Pietrzyk, of Norman, Oklahoma, was traveling on Highway 92 in Jones County, Texas, when his car broke down. He called a tow service, and a tow truck was dispatched to the site, between Tuxedo and Highway 277.

Shortly before 7 p.m., a tow service was loading Pietrzyk’s car onto a tow truck while Pietrzyk stood by. Suddenly, two semi-trucks driving down Highway 92 crashed, one after the other, into Pietrzyk, Pietrzyk’s car, and the tow truck.

Pietrzyk died at the scene. The two semi-truck drivers, who are also from Oklahoma, sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene, Texas, for treatment. They have not been identified. It is not yet clear whether charges will be filed against one or both of the truck drivers.

The tow truck driver, David Pickrell, was not injured. He spoke to reporters after the accident, saying the incident was “like a bad scene from an Evel Knievel video.”

“Something you don’t ever imagine,” Pickrell said. “Once the smoke clears, the second one hits.”

Pickrell added that drivers need to follow state move-over laws, which require vehicles to slow down and change lanes when emergency vehicles, department of transportation vehicles, and tow trucks are stopped in the shoulder of a highway.

“People just want to go home at the end of the day,” he said. “That’s all that kid was trying to do that day – go home.”
