Driver Charged for Fatal Wreck on I-59 in Dade County, Georgia

DADE COUNTY, GA. – A truck driver has been charged in connection with a fatal four-vehicle crash that occurred in Dade County, Georgia, according to an online news report from*

According to the Dade County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 6:25 p.m. on November 19, a tractor-trailer was attempting to merge onto Interstate 59 South from the side of the roadway near the Slygo Road Exit. The tractor-trailer traveled into the path of a passenger car, and the car struck the back of the tractor-trailer. Two other passenger cars then collided as a result. 

The driver of the first car was killed in the crash. Two other people were injured, and their current medical conditions have not been released. None of the victims has been identified. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 35-year-old Stephen W. Farmer, of Fort Payne, Alabama, was arrested and charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield when entering the roadway. 

This is one of several fatal accidents to occur recently in Dade County. A  2015 Ford F-550 with failed brakes struck the back of a 2018 Ford Transit van on Interstate 24 East.  

The impact sent the Transit van into the back of a 2012 Nissan Altima, after which the Altima ran into a guardrail and struck a 2013 Chevy Silverado. The Transit van then struck the side of the Silverado, and the F-550 sideswiped a 2015 Jeep Wrangler. 

According to the report from the Georgia State Patrol, a 13-year-old girl riding in the Transit van was the only person who was injured in the crash, and she was transported to T.C. Thompson hospital in critical condition. The girl later died of her injuries.
