Georgia Firefighters Raising Funds for Family of Teen Killed in Vehicle Crash

November 30, 2018

DADE COUNTY, GA. – Firefighters in Dade County, Georgia, are raising funds for the family of a Louisiana teenager who was killed November 17 in a five-vehicle wreck. The story is reported online at*

At approximately 11:55 a.m. on November 17, a family from LaPlace, Louisiana, was traveling to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, for Thanksgiving. They were headed eastbound in a 2018 Ford Transit van on Interstate 24 through Dade County, Georgia, when a 2015 Ford F-550 with failed brakes struck their vehicle from behind.

The impact sent the Transit van into the back of a 2012 Nissan Altima, after which the Altima ran into a guardrail and struck a 2013 Chevy Silverado. The Transit van then struck the side of the Silverado, and the F-550 sideswiped a 2015 Jeep Wrangler. Both the Transit van and the F-550 ran into a guardrail before finally coming to a rest off of the interstate.

According to the report from the Georgia State Patrol, a 13-year-old girl riding in the transit van was the only person who was injured in the crash, and she was transported to T.C. Thompson hospital in critical condition. The girl later perished of her injuries. Her name has been released but withheld from this story for privacy reasons.

Dade County firefighters who responded to the scene felt involved in the incident and have now started raising funds for the family of the girl who tragically died in the crash. Firefighter Patrick Hickey said the family was in Georgia when the accident occurred, so the Georgia community needed to take action to help.

“They came through out little Wildwood town, so that means they are part of this,” Hickey said. “So when they come through, it’s important for people to step up and help out.”
