December 02, 2018

LAURENS COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report from 13wmaz.com, four children were ejected from a family vehicle during a deadly November 25 crash in Laurens County, Georgia. One teenager tragically died, and nine people were hospitalized after the wreck.*

At approximately 7 p.m. on November 25, a 2005 Lincoln Aviator traveling west on Holiday Road in Laurens County failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Scotland Road. The Lincoln crossed into the path of a 2015 Ford F-150 traveling southbound on Scotland Road. The Ford struck the Lincoln on the passenger’s side, according to Georgia State Patrol.

A family from Hazlehurst, Georgia, was in the Lincoln, and four children were ejected from the vehicle. Georgia State Patrol said one of the children, a 15-year-old girl, died at the scene. Her name has been released but withheld from this story for privacy reasons.

The other three children were injured and transported to the Medical Center, Navicent Health in Macon, Georgia. Troopers said they were not sure where the children were riding, but they were all somewhere in the back of the Lincoln and were not properly secured.

Four people from Florida were in the Ford at the time, and they suffered minor injuries. In total, nine people were hospitalized after the wreck. One person remains in critical condition. Georgia State Patrol is still investigating and has not yet released additional information.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, vehicle crashes in the United States are the leading cause of death for children. Twenty percent of children involved in serious car accidents between 2010 and 2014 were not properly restrained or were not wearing a seat belt. More than 40 percent of children who died in vehicle accidents from 2010 to 2014 were not properly restrained or were not wearing a seat belt.
