Two Drivers Collide Head-On in Woodstock, GA, Trying to Beat Red Light

WOODSTOCK, GA. – Two drivers collided head-on November 26 in Woodstock, Georgia, as they both tried to beat a red light at an intersection, according to an online news story from Both drivers were injured.* 

On the afternoon of November 26, two vehicles were approaching the intersection of Trickum Road and Highway 92. One vehicle was traveling north on Trickum Road, and the other was traveling south. The light at the intersection turned yellow, and both drivers accelerated to try to beat the light. The southbound car attempted to turn left onto Highway 92, while the northbound vehicle attempted to continue north through the intersection. The two collided head-on.

Both drivers, neither of whom has been identified, were injured in the crash and transported to local hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries and their current medical conditions are not known. The Woodstock Police Department says the northbound driver will likely be charged in connection with the accident, based on the circumstances of the crash and evidence gathered at the scene. No additional information has been reported at this time. 

Woodstock is located in Cherokee County in the north-central part of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of approximately 242,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 75, Interstate 575, State Route 5, and State Route 140. 

According to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, traffic accidents in Cherokee County are on the rise. In 2012, 3,067 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 785 injuries and 18 deaths. By 2016, the total number of accidents more than doubled, growing to 6,646. These accidents led to 1,427 injuries and seven deaths.
