Father of Lion Air Plane Crash Victim Sues Boeing in US

December 05, 2018

CHICAGO, IL- Reuters.com writes that a man from Indonesia is suing Boeing Co. after his son perished in the Lion Air plane crash last October. The lawsuit alleges that the aircraft, a 737 MAX 8, was defective and that the defects led to the deadly crash.*

The lawsuit was filed in the Circuit Court ofCook County, Illinois. Boeing’s headquarters are located in Illinois. The claim states that Boeing failed to provide Lion Air with a warning that the plane had an unsafe design flaw.

The plane crash occurred on October 29, 2018,when Lion Air Flight 610 took a nose dive into the Java Sea just a short time after it took off from an airport in Jakarta.

All 189 people aboard the flight died in the crash.

The plaintiff’s son, Dr. Rio Nanda Pratama, was returning home after attending a conference when he died. Dr. Pratama’s wedding was scheduledfor this week.

A preliminary report about the crash is scheduled to be published later in November.

The crash was shocking in part because it involved a new aircraft that was one of the company’s most advanced models and was being flown by experienced pilots. Weather was clear on the day of theflight. The cause of the crash was, therefore, a mystery to many.

There is now some indication that a new safety feature installed in the plane might have been the reason for the incident. The feature causes the plane to lower its nose automatically to stop the aircraft from stalling. The company reportedly failed to inform people in the industry of the feature, which may have contributed to the crash.
