Woman Attempts to Flee with Officer Hanging Out of Her vehicle

December 05, 2018

MARIETTA, GA- The writes that a woman crashed her vehicle near a Krystal restaurant while a Marietta police officer was hanging onto her vehicle.*

The woman, Mikayla Lyon, was stopped by police after making an improper lane change. An officer requested that Lyon exit her car. The officer then saw Lyon run back to her vehicle and attempt to flee from the scene. The officer pursued Lyon and struggled to get her out of the vehicle.

Lyon put the vehicle into drive and hit the gas pedal while the officer was partially inside the vehicle. Lyon started driving towardthe restaurant while the officer clungto the vehicle. Lyon struck a post at the restaurant, went over a median and struck a wall. Once the vehicle crashed, Lyon ran from the scene and into the woods.

Officers were able to track the suspect down and arrest her.

A bag of methamphetamines was located in the vehicle. Lyon is now facing a total of 10 charges for her actions, including, “obstruction of a police officer, fleeing and drug trafficking.” She is currently being held without bond.

Drugs play a role in many crashes every year. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, 11 percent of fatal vehicle collisions involve a drugged driver. However, the numbers are difficult to determine. While there are well-established tests for determining when a driver is under the influence of alcohol, tests used to determine whether someone is under the influence of drugs at the time of a crash is more complicated. Additionally, many alcohol-impaired drivers are also under the influence of drugs, making it difficult to determine which had a greater impact on their driving capabilities.
