According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), collision avoidance systems could eliminate a high number of these accidents and save thousands of livesevery year. The NTSB recommends that these systems be installed in all vehicles automatically in the same way that every vehicle is equipped with seatbelts. About 87 percent of rear-end crashes are the result of drivers failing to pay attention meaning that the technology could be a good way to improve roadway safety.
