Drunk Driving Not Just a Problem at Night According to Fulton Commission Chair

December 04, 2018

FULTON COUNTY, GA- The underthegeorgiasun.com writes that the county’s commission chair, Robb Pitts, is reminding drivers of the dangers associated with drunk drivers, and the fact that the risks are not only present at night.*

Pitts was involved in a vehicle collision in Sandy Springs earlier in 2018. Pitts was in a motor vehicle collision caused by a driver who was intoxicated. The suspect who caused the collision was arraigned last Thursday, and Pitts decided to speak out on the dangers of driving under the influence, and the fact that it does not have to be a late night or a weekend for drink drivers to be on the road.

The accident Pitts was involved in took place on a weekday in the morning, illustrating that drunk driving is a risk all drivers face regardless of when they are on the road. Pitts was traveling as a passenger in a colleague’s vehicle last April close to Roswell road at the time of the crash. The vehicle was totaled in the incident.

The suspect is facing charges for “driving under the influence, open container, failure to wear a seatbelt, a suspended license, and failure to yield.”

In 2016, 1,554 people died in crashes in Georgia. Of the total, 368 deaths took place in crashes that involved a driver who was impaired by alcohol. About one in four traffic-related fatalities involved a drunk driver. The percent of fatal accidents that involve a drunk driver in the state has stayed at about 25 percent over the course of several years, while traffic deaths have increased.
