Atlanta Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries in Mableton Crash

November 30, 2018

ATLANTA, GA- The writes that a man from Atlanta is in the hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries following a crash that took place in Mableton.*

The driver of the vehicle, 26-year-old Shakir Williams was operating a 2003 Toyota Camry when he veered out of the southbound lanes, across the opposite lanes and then off the roadway. Williams attempted to correct and wound up striking a parked vehicle on the side of the road. The Cobb County police report that Williams struck a 2012 Ford F-350 pickup truck and shoved that vehicle into the 1990 GMC Safari Van that was in front of the Ford.

Fortunately, no one was in either of the parked vehicles at the time of the crash. Williams sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. The passenger traveling in the vehicle with Williams was also injured and transported to the Grady Memorial Hospital. The passenger’s injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The crash is still under investigation, but the police suspect that speed might have been a factor.

Speeding is one of the leading causes of traffic fatalities in the United States. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 27 percent of all traffic fatalities involved a vehicle that was traveling above the speed limit.

In many accidents, drivers are not just speeding, but are also under the influence of alcohol. In fatal crashes, 37 percent of the drivers who were speeding werealso found to be under the influence of alcohol.

Sometimes drivers may be traveling within the speed limit, but still be going too fast for the road conditions. This can be the case in bad weather, or when a road is under construction.
