Two Atlanta Police Officers Injured in Midtown Motorcycle Accident

ATLANTA, GA. – Two Atlanta police officers were injured in a motorcycle accident, according to an online news report from 11alive.com. The officers were hospitalized but are reportedly in stable condition.*

The crash occurred on the evening of November 19. Two unidentified officers with the Atlanta Police Department were riding motorcycles northbound on Piedmont Road in Midtown. Near Lakeshore Drive and the on-ramp to Interstate 85 South, a car turned left in front of the officers. The car collided with the two motorcycles.

The driver, who has not been identified, remained at the scene and cooperated with police. He or she was not injured and was cited with failure to obey a traffic control device and improper left turn.

The two officers were transported to Grady Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They are reportedly in stable condition but remain in the hospital. No additional information about the accident has been reported at this time. Atlanta authorities are investigating.

In 2016, approximately 173 motorcyclists died in motor vehicle accidents, which represented a 26 percent increase in motorcyclist fatalities since 2014. 

In 2017, 209 motorcyclists were killed in vehicle crashes, and data indicate 3 percent of those people were not wearing helmets. So far in 2018, the Office reports 264 people have died in motorcycle accidents in Georgia, three of whom were not wearing helmets.
