Car Crash Shuts Down I-75 in Catoosa County, Georgia

CATOOSA COUNTY, GA. – According to an online news report from, a car crash shut down much of Interstate 75 North in Catoosa County, Georgia. Little is known about the accident at this time.*

The crash occurred on November 19 on I-75 North and Cloud Springs Road (Exit 353) in Catoosa County. It is not clear how many vehicles were involved, but the wreck caused two of three right lanes to shut down, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. No information was released about the cause of the accident or whether anyone was injured. 

Drivers in the area traveling toward Tennessee were encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid the crash site. Catoosa County officials are still investigating the accident and have not yet reported additional information. 

Catoosa County is located on the northwestern border of the state of Georgia. The population in the county is estimated to be approximately 66,400, and the county’s major roadways include Interstate 75, U.S. Route 27, U.S. Route 41, and U.S. Route 76.

Data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety shows that Catoosa County has seen an unsteady increase in vehicle accident totals and in vehicle accident fatalities. In 2012, a total of 1,488 vehicle accidents occurred in Catoosa County. These accidents resulted in 389 injuries and seven deaths.

In the two years following, vehicle accident totals went down, and fatalities dropped to five, then rose up to eight. In 2015 and 2016, accident totals, injuries, and fatalities all climbed. In 2016, accident totals numbered 2,182 in Catoosa County, and the accidents led to 558 injuries and 13 deaths.
