One Person Sustained Serious Injuries in Crash in Austell in Cobb County, Georgia

November 27, 2018

COBB COUNTY, GA- The cobbcountycourier.com reports that a serious automobile crash took place in Austell, Georgia. Officers from the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) are carrying out the investigation into the crash.*

Reports indicate that a 2003 Toyota Camry was driving southbound when it crossed the highway’s center line and went into oncoming traffic then left the roadway. The driver attempted to return to the road but hit a 2012 Ford F-350 truck that had been parked at the curb. The Toyota hit the Ford with such force that it rammed into the vehicle parked in front of it, a 1990 GMC Safari Van. Neither of the parked cars had occupants at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Toyota, 26-year-old Shakir Williams from Atlanta suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision and was transported to the Grady Memorial Hospital.A passenger in the Toyota was also injured in the crash and taken to Grady. The male passenger did not suffer injuries that were believed to be life-threatening.

Single-vehicle run-off-the-road types of collisions are some of the most dangerous crashes that take place on the road. About one out of five people who die in a vehicleaccident in the United States are killed in single-vehicle accidents. These crashes often involve impact with fixed objects or vehicles rolling over. Both of these scenarios create high risks for vehicle occupants.

Most single-vehicle crashes are the result of human errors. The behaviors most likely to lead to these accidents include speeding, drunk driving, drowsy driving, and distracted driving. Speeding plays a part in about 90 percent of these accidents.
