Two-vehicle Collision Reported on Crawford Street in Miller County, Georgia

November 29, 2018

MILLER COUNTY, GA- The writes that a rollover collision involving two-vehicles took place in front of the Dollar General Store on Crawford Street in Miller County, Georgia.

Rollover collisions are crashes in which a vehicle turns onto its side or roof at some point in the incident. These crashes are serious and lead to fatalities more often than other types of crashes. While vehicles only roll over in about 1 percent of all vehicle crashes, about one out of three vehicle fatalities occur in rollover crashes. One of the reasons that these crashes are so deadly is that they can lead to vehicle occupants being either partially, or completely ejected from their vehicles.

Vehicles can roll over in single-vehicle crashes or in multiple-vehicle crashes. About 75 percent of rollover fatalities take place in single-vehicle incidents where a vehicle slides sideways and then trips, or when a driver makes too sharp of a turn. However, when vehicles are struck on their sides, this too can lead to a rollover.

The chances of a vehicle rolling over depend on the type of vehicle involved. While any vehicle can roll in the right set of circumstances, SUVs and pickup trucks are far more likely to roll than are cars. The reason SUVs are more likely to roll is that they are taller and farther from the ground than cars. The chances of these vehicles rolling increases, even more, when these vehicles are loaded heavily with cargo or are carrying many passengers.

As SUVs begin to take up a larger share of the automobile market, rollover accidents have become more common. However, modern SUVs are less likely to flip over than are their predecessors.
