Fatal Crash on Georgetown Drive in Richmond County, Georgia

November 25, 2018

RICHMOND COUNTY, GA- writes that a fatal crash took place in Richmond County, Georgia. The crash occurred when the driver of a Toyota Tacoma was heading northbound on Georgetown Drive and attempted to pass another vehicle by driving in the southbound lane.*

The Tacoma struck another vehicle head-on. The woman driving the Tacoma was taken to the Augusta University Medical Center where she was declared dead.

Head-on collisions are some of the deadliest crashes anyone can be involved in. The forces of the two vehicles are multiplied when they strike one another leading to a particularly violent crash. This type of accident is terrifying for responsible drivers because it is difficult to avoid becoming involved in a head-on crash if a driver drifts into your lane of traffic.

In most head-on collisions, the cause is not a driver attempting to pass another vehicle, or a curve in the road, or inclement weather. In the majority of head-on collisions, the cause of the crash is that a driver was simply not paying attention and ended up veering into the lanes traveling in the opposite direction. A driver need not take his or her eyes off the road for long to cause one of these crashes.

The best way to avoid being in one of these horrific crashes is to avoid roads that have speed limits above 40 miles per hour unless the road has a center median that makes it less likely for vehicles to travel across the center line.

Research indicates that people are far less likely to survive a head-on crash if the vehicles are traveling above 43 miles per hour.
