One Dead, One Injured in Gainesville, GA, Plane Crash

GAINESVILLE, GA. – As reported online by, one person died and another was injured November 17, 2018 in a plane crash in Gainesville, Georgia. The cause of the crash is not yet known.*

The crash occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on November 17 at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville. The 2015 Lancair International Legacy RG single-engine airplane was registered to 68-year-old Robert Alberhasky, of Cumming, Georgia. Alberhasky is believed to have been the pilot of the plane on November 17, 2018 and died in the crash.

A passenger in the airplane was seriously injured but is said to be in stable condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. The passenger has been identified as 69-year-old Mark Lewis, of Flowery Branch, Georgia. It is not clear whether the plane was departing from or arriving at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport when it crashed. The cause of the crash has not been released.

The Gainesville Police Department, the Federal Aviation Administration, and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board will lead the investigation. No additional information has been reported about the crash at this time. 

The November 17, 2018 accident is not the only plane crash to occur in Georgia this month. On November 4, two men were injured in a plane crash that occurred in Woodstock, Georgia. A small plane crashed upon takeoff at approximately 10 a.m. on November 4 at Air Acres, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Air Acres is a private runway located along Arnold Mill Road, near Arnold Mill Elementary School. It is not yet clear how the accident occurred. 

The pilot and one passenger were on board the plane, and both were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. They reportedly suffered minor injuries. Their names have not been released.
