Man Severely Injured After Being Ejected From Vehicle in Cobb County Collision

November 14, 2018

COBB COUNTY, GA - The ajc.com writes that a man was ejected from a truck in a crash between two vehicles in Cobb County.*

The victim, 38-year-old Patrick Bruce, of Marietta was driving northbound on Canton Road in a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck when he veered from the road and hit a utility pole, followed by a stone wall. The incident took place at about 6:30 in the morning.

Following the crash into the wall, the truck re-entered the road and struck a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer SS. According to the reports, Bruce was thrown from his truck near the intersection with Old Piedmont Road. Bruce did not have a seat belt on at the time of the crash.

The crash is under investigation and charges are expected to be filed.

The Cobb County Police are seeking any additional information about the collision.

Vehicle ejections are extremely deadly incidents that are more likely fatal than not. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 80 percent of vehicle occupants who were fully ejected from their vehicles in crashes died as a result of their injuries. The best way to avoid being ejected from a vehicle is to use a seat belt. The IIHS reports that in 2016, an estimated 14,668 people were able to survive car accidents because they used their seatbelts. Many more lives could have been saved if everyone properly used their safety belts. Front seat passengers have about a 45 percent reduction in risk of being killed in a car crash when they use a seat belt.
