Multiple Vehicle Collision Reported in Thomas County, Georgia

November 14, 2018

THOMAS COUNTY, GA- Wctv.tv writes that a crash took place on Highway 19 that involved six vehicles. The Georgia State Police and the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office both responded to the scene of the accident.*

The incident took place Tuesday, November 13, 2018,at a little before 9 in the morning. Several people involved sustained injuries in the collision.

Highway 19’s southbound lanes were blocked, and traffic was being rerouted around the scene.

Traffic accidents are one leading cause of death in the United States. In 2017, more than 40,000 people died in motor vehicle crashes on U.S. roadways. While there was a slight dip from 2016, the number was still higher than it was in 2015.

The thinking ontraffic fatalities is undergoing a shift. Policymakers are increasingly viewing crashes as an avoidable cause of death that should not be tolerated. Car makers have taken steps to make vehicles safer for the occupants. Technology involving carefully designed airbags and collision avoidance systems are working to make driving safer. However, at the same time, drivers are causing many unnecessary deaths that keep the total number of fatalities high. Speeding, distracted driving, and failure to use seat belts all contribute to unnecessary traffic accident deaths.

Automobile manufacturers, lawmakers, andregulators are working to get self-driving vehicles on the road. These vehicles are expected to greatly reduce the number of roadway fatalities that take place each year. However, the benefits of this technology may not come for years. In the meantime, the collision warning technology and campaigns that remind drivers about the dangers of smartphones while driving are being used to make small,short-termimprovements.
