7-Year-Old Boy Killed by Vehicle While Waiting for School Bus in Pennsylvania

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, PA. – November 1, 2018 - According to an online news report from, a 7-year-old boy who was waiting for a school bus was struck and killed by a vehicle November 1 in Franklin Township, Pennsylvania. The driver did not stop after the collision.*

The incident occurred at approximately 7 a.m. on November 1 in Franklin Township. Police say the boy was waiting at a bus stop and was struck by a vehicle. The unidentified driver did not stop, but police believe they have located him or her. Police say the driver was traveling at a low rate of speed and did not know he or she had hit someone. It is not yet clear how the accident occurred. 

The school bus driver arrived at the scheduled stop and discovered the boy’s body. His name has not been released. Tyrone Area School District Superintendent Cathy Harlow confirmed the boy was a second-grader at Tyrone Elementary School in Tyrone, Pennsylvania. Harlow said the district was assisting Pennsylvania State Police in their investigation of the incident. 

“Our school community is truly grieved by this terrible loss,” Harlow said. “Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.”

The 7-year-old boy’s death becomes one in a string of injury and fatality accidents around the country in less than two weeks involving children at bus stops. One of these accidents occurred in Georgia. On October 25, a 10-year-old boy died and a 7-year-old boy was seriously injured when a car tried to pass a school bus and struck them in Moultrie, Georgia. The two boys were brothers and were trying to cross the street together to board the bus.
