Police Arrest Woman in Connection to Georgia Hit-and-Run Crash

MACON COUNTY, GA- The herald-review.com writes that a 26-year-old woman has been arrested for fleeing the scene of an accident. The driver, whose name has not yet been released, hit a cyclist on October 30, 2018,at 6:50 p.m. The crash happened on U.S. 36 in Macon County.* 

Police arrived at the scene of the accidentto find a 56-year-old man from Atwood who was suffering from several injuries, including broken bones and internal injuries. The victim was transported to the Decatur Memorial Hospital where he received treatments including a surgical procedure. The victim was released on November 7, 2018. 

The report indicates that the cyclist was struck from behind while he was riding westbound. The police found a piece of red plastic at the scene of the crash and determined that the fragment came from a Chevrolet Impala. 

The public helped provide tips about the crash and led to the driver who is suspected of hitting the cyclist. The woman said that she was driving west on U.S. 36 on October 30thbut said that she believed that she had hit a deer. The suspect’s father reported that she had struck a deer but that he was not sure where the accident took place. 

The driver was arrested and charged with “leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.” The crime is considered a Class 4 felony. The driver was later released and has a court date scheduled for December 14, 2018. The release of her name is pending her arraignment. 

The sheriff expressed thanks to the members of the public who helped provide information about the collision.
