One Killed in Crash Between Truck and Car in Guntersville, Alabama

November 19, 2018

GUNTERSVILLE, AL- writes that a person was killed in a two-vehicle crash. The collision involved a moving company truck owned by a Georgia franchise of Two Men and a Truck and a car. Another individual was in critical condition following the crash.*

Collisions between trucks and smaller vehicles are extremely dangerous to the occupants of the smaller vehicle. Occupants of large trucks are most at risk in accidents involving two large trucks, although single-vehicle collisions, including rollover accidents, can also be devastating for truck occupants. In deadly collisions involving trucks and smaller vehicles, the victims are in the smaller vehicle about 97 percent of the time.

It is important for drivers to remember tobe cautious when driving around trucks. Because of their massive size and weight, large trucks are not easy to maneuver and cannot stop quickly in an emergency. Large trucks can weigh around 20 or even 30 times what a smaller vehicle weighs. As a result, these vehicles require about 30 or 40 times more distance to stop than smaller vehicles. Trucks struggle even more to stop quickly on slick or wet roadways. It is important to give these vehicles plenty of space.

Another risk factor for large truck accidents is that drivers spend long hours behind the wheel and can end up with driver fatigue. The law allows for truck drivers to drive 11 hours at a time. It is not uncommon for drivers to violate this law and spend even longer stretches behind the wheel. IT is difficult for people to stay alert behind the wheel for such extended time periods.
