High School Students Crash into Maroon Creek

ASPEN- The aspentimes.com writes that five high school students crashed into Maroon Creek on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. The students were in a 2017 Tesla X, driving north on Maroon Creek Road when the vehicle swerved and veered off the roadway. The vehicle became airborne, struck a tree, and then rolled into Maroon Creek.

The crash took place at around 7:55p.m. The driver of the vehicle was an 18-year-old high school student from Aspen. The driver sustained severe injuries and was brought to the Aspen Valley Hospital. One of the passengers, an 18-year-old girl, is said to have suffered life-threatening injuries including a brain hemorrhage and several broken bones. 

Another 18-year-old girl sustained moderate injuries, a 17-year-old boy suffered serious injuries, and an 18-year-old boy sustained only minor injuries. Reports indicate that one of the victims might have been transported to a hospital in Denver via airlift. 

On witness who lives near the site of the crash stated that the vehicle seemed to miss a curve before leaving the road and rolling down the embankment and into the water. The witness stated that a girl was still inside the vehicle in the water and that the victims were in need of help. When the witnesses arrived to help, both a boy and a girl were in the car,andboth were conscious. The other victims were also still conscious. 

The witness was impressed with the Tesla’s safety stating that the vehicle had essentially flown 100 feet before it landed and that the occupants of the vehicle were fortunate. A parent of one of the injured studentssaid that the vehicle was speeding at about 75 to 100 miles per hour when it crashed.
