Manfrom Monroe in ICU Following Vehicle Crash

November 16, 2018

MONROE COUNTY, GA- reports that a man from Monroe County was involved in a car crash on Highway 74 early on Saturday, November 3, 2018. The victim, 29-year-old Harry Crowell was driving west in his Chevrolet Impala and only about a mile from his house when he crashed into a ditch.*

Another driver, Earl Jackson, was driving to open his shop, the Jackson County Storewhen he saw Crowell’s vehicle in the ditch at about 5 in the morning. Jackson went to the vehicle and found Crowell who he says was unconscious. Jackson recognized the victim as a regular customer in his shop. Jackson was not able to identify any pulse in Crowell. Fortunately, a nurse who was also driving by the scene stopped and could feel a slight pulse.

Crowell was transported to the Navient Medical Center where he remains on a ventilator. The victim’s uncle stated that the family was extremely grateful to Jackson for providing assistance to Crowell on the day of the crash.

Single-vehicle crashes are the cause out of about 20 percent of all traffic fatalities. Almost all of these crashes are entirely avoidable. There are times where heavy rain, snow, or icy roads make driving more dangerous and crashes more likely, but most accidents have less to do with weather and more to do with drivers.

Hazardous behaviors including driving while under the influence of alcohol, texting and driving and speeding are all common causes of single-vehicle crashes. Alcohol is more often a factor in crashes involving one vehicle than it is in collisions between multiple vehicles, and nearly all accidents where one car drives off the road involve a driver who was speeding.
