November 17, 2018

ATLANTA- writes that a semi-truck struck and killed a construction worker Hamilton County on Wednesday, November 7, 2018. The victim, Justin Nance, 32, was working on the highway at the time of the accident. The site of the fatal accident is marked with a memorial that was set up by the victim’s co-workers.*

Nance is a father of three children who was promoted recently to an E & B Paving crew foreman. The team was performing work on U.S. 31.

The accident took place when a large truck failed to move into the left lane and struck the arrow board at the construction site. The board and truck hit Nance, a tar kettle trailer, and another truck.

The victim tragically died at the scene of theaccident.

The truck that hit Nance was owned by the K & S Pallets of Fort Wayne. The driver underwent tests to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved in the cause of the crash.

It is not clear whether the driver wasspeeding, or if he was distracted when the crash took place.

Nance was a veteran of the Marine Corps who started his work with E & B following his time in the military.

Construction workers have hazardous jobs, and workers who carry out projects on highways are faced with the added risk of being in close proximity to traffic that is traveling at high speeds. Drivers who speed in construction zones can be forced to paycostly fines because the laws have been written to protect the people performing roadway work. Unfortunately, many of these workers are injured and killed by drivers who are not paying attention or who do not abide by the speed limit reduction in work zones.
