Numerous Construction Zone Crashes on Interstate 20 Lead to Calls for Caution

November 13, 2018

HARRISON COUNTY, LA- The writes that drivers heading eastbound on Interstate 20 were experiencing heavy traffic delays following a crash that took place near a construction zone. The traffic was backed up across the state’s border with Texas.*

The Texas side of the border has seen a number of crashes in the area around the construction site as well. Another collision took place on the morning of November 8, 2018. According to Marcus Sandifer, who serves as the public information officer at TxDOT’s Atlanta District, the frequent accidents are the result of drivers failing to notice that traffic in the area is slowing down because of the construction. The construction site is right at the state line.

The accidents lead to lane closures that cause massive delays for drivers.

Sandifer says that thought the project belongs to Louisiana, his office is trying to notify drivers to use caution as they enter the area. The traffic is already much slower because of the construction, but the frequent accidents exacerbate the issue. Clearing the accidents in the congested area takes longer than normal as well.

Sandifer urges drivers to watch the road and not to be “distracted by what’s going on in your vehicle and or on your phone.”

The project is slated to be completed byJanuary 2019. Until then, many drivers have resorted to alternate routes, leading to delays in other areas as well.

The police are also asking that drivers not stop to question them or call the department to ask about the traffic delays or complain. They remind drivers that dispatchers are there to answer calls about emergencies, nottraffic delays.
