Single Vehicle Crash on Interstate 75 North Injures One

November 13, 2018

CANTON, GA- According to, a driver was injured in a single-vehicle collision on Interstate 75. Reports indicate that the driver, Ashley Stout, 24, hydroplaned and spun out across all lanes of traffic before hitting the inner guardrail. The vehicle stopped in the road’s center lanes.*

Stout was listed as being in stable condition.

Single vehicle crashes cause a shockingly high number of fatal car accidents. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) stated that in 2016, 41 percent of people killed in motor vehicle crashes died in single-vehicle collisions.

The risk of dying in a single-vehicle crash is higher for people traveling in SUVs and pickup trucks than for occupants of cars. In 56 percent of accidents in which the occupant of an SUV was killed, the crash only involved one-vehicle. The number was even higher for pickup trucks at 59 percent of fatalities occurring in one-vehicle crashes. While this might suggest that these vehicles are less safe than cars, it should be pointed out that occupants of cars do not fare as well in multi-vehicle crashes as do occupants of SUVs and pickup trucks.

Most single-vehicle crashes are caused by driver mistakes. While inclement weather can make roads more difficult to drive on, most of these crashes are the result of drivers speeding, driving while they are tired, or driving while they are under the influence of alcohol. Distracted driving is also a major factor. When a driver takes his or her attention away from the road for even a moment, there is a risk of driving off the road by veering to the side or missing a curve in the road.
