Driver Arrested for DWI Following Crash

VILLAS- The capemaycountyherald.com writes that a crash that took place on November 8, 2018, led to the driver of the vehicle being arrested for driving while intoxicated. The one-vehicle crash took place at about 1:42 in the morning.*

The Lower Township police responded to multiple calls regarding the crash. The early reports indicated that the people in the vehicle might have been trying to escape the scene of the crash. Officers arrived on the scene and found a whiteFord sedan that had smashed into a tree. The vehicle had gone over a lawn and broken through a fence. 

The vehicle was registered in Florida. The occupants of the Ford had run away from the scene. While police were investigating the scene, 20-year-old Aaron Wexler from Villas returned to the crash site to admit that he had been in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Damion L. Silver is Wexler’s brother-in-law. 

Officers located Silver walking nearby. Silver first denied being the vehicle’s driver, but then later admitted that he had been operating the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Silver showed signs of possible intoxication. Officers carried out field sobriety tests and then arrested the driver. Silver was transported to the Lower Township Police Headquarters and later released.

Silver’s vehicle was towed away from the scene. 

Silver is now facing charges for “driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, and reckless driving.”
