Woman Killed in Cobb County, Georgia, Tractor-Trailer Crash

COBB COUNTY, GA. – November 5, 2018 According to AJC.com, a woman was killed November 2 in a Cobb County, Georgia, tractor-trailer crash, according to an online news report from ajc.com. The woman was a truck driver from Flowery Branch, Georgia.*

At approximately 6 p.m. on November 2, 32-year-old Kyra Brown, of Flowery Branch, Georgia, was driving a Freightliner tractor-trailer on Interstate 20 East in Cobb County. Near Riverside Drive, the tractor-trailer traveled off the roadway and up an embankment, before crashing into a line of trees. It is not yet clear what caused the truck to leave the interstate. 

Brown was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Cobb County Police are investigating the incident and have not released additional information at this time. 

Cobb County is located in the northwestern part of the state of Georgia and has an estimated population of 755,000. It is the third-most populated county in the state, and its county seat is Marietta. 

According to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Cobb County is the site of numerous vehicle accidents each year, with an increase in these accidents occurring during the span of several years. The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety collected data on accidents in the county from 2012 to 2016. In 2012, a total of 11,767 vehicle accidents occurred in Cobb County, leading to 2,860 injuries and 47 deaths. 

By 2016, those numbers had increased to 34,985 total accidents, 8,470 injuries, and 59 deaths. During both 2012 and 2016, more than half of the fatality accidents in Cobb County were related to speeding or alcohol consumption.
