Walnut Grove, GA, Wreck Leaves One Man Dead, Teenager Injured

WALNUT GROVE, GA. – November 7, 2018 - A single-vehicle wreck in Walton Grove, Georgia, left one man dead and a teenager injured, according to an online news report from waltontribune.com.*

At approximately 1:20 a.m. on November 7, 22-year-old Dillon Michael Kalemba, of Loganville, Georgia, was driving a 1996 Ford F-150 southbound on Guthrie Cemetery Road in Walton Grove. He attempted to navigate a curve in the roadway and lost control of the truck. The truck overturned and crashed, according to Georgia State Patrol Troopers. 

Kalemba died at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Harleigh Conley, of Oxford, Georgia, sustained minor injuries. Troopers are still investigating the accident and have not released additional information at this time. 

Walnut Grove is located in Walton County, in the northern portion of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of more than 90,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 20, U.S. Route 78, and U.S. Route 278. 

According to data collected by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, a fair amount of vehicle accidents occur in Walton County every year. In 2012, 1,453 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, resulting in injuries to 369 people and the deaths of five people. Accident figures rose steadily during the next four years. In 2016, a total of 2,729 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 679 injuries.

The highest number of vehicle fatalities from 2012 to 2016 occurred in 2016, when 16 people died in motor vehicle accidents. Almost 25 percent of those fatality accidents involved alcohol or excessive speeding. Two of the people killed were pedestrians.
