Motorcyclist Struck by Three Vehicles in Washington State

TUMWATER, WA. – November 7, 2018 - According to an online news report from seattlepi.com, a motorcyclist in Washington State was struck by three vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, after being thrown from his bike on November 6, 2018*

At approximately 11 p.m. on November 6, a 36-year-old man from Rainier, Washington, was riding a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle on 93rd Avenue in Tumwater, Washington, and merged onto Interstate 5 North. After merging onto the interstate, the man suddenly crossed all lanes of travel and veered off the roadway to the left. He was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the middle lane of the interstate. 

Three vehicles, including a 2018 International tractor-trailer, then ran over the motorcyclist. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

None of the drivers has been identified, and the motorcyclist’s name has not been released, pending notification of next-of-kin. It is not clear how the accident occurred. Crews shut down I-5 for more than three hours to investigate and clear the scene. No additional information has been reported at this time.

In Georgia, more than 10 percent of all traffic fatalities since 2007 involved motorcyclists, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In 2016, approximately 173 motorcyclists died in motor vehicle accidents, which represented a 26 percent increase in motorcyclist fatalities since 2014. 

In 2017, 209 motorcyclists were killed in vehicle crashes, and data indicate 3 percent of those people were not wearing helmets. So far in 2018, the Office reports 264 people have died in motorcycle accidents in Georgia, three of whom were not wearing helmets.
