Gwinnett County Officers Save Man After Freak Accident at McDonald’s

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA. – November 6, 2018 - After a freak accident at a Duluth, Georgia, McDonald’s on November 4, police officers in Gwinnett County saved a man pinned between his car and the building. The story is reported online by*

At approximately 7 p.m. on November 4, 21-year-old Carlos Tuscano was in the drive-thru line at the McDonald’s located in the 2100 block of Duluth Highway in Duluth. Tuscano dropped his credit card outside his car window and opened his door to try to pick it up. When he reached down to grab the card, his foot hit the accelerator of his car, and the car traveled forward, crashing into a metal pole beside the McDonald’s building. 

Gwinnett County police arrived to find Tuscano non-responsive, with part of his body slumped out of the car. He was trapped between his car and the building. The first officer at the scene smashed the glass in the car’s passenger window and placed the car in neutral. Officers and bystanders then pushed the car backward to free Tuscano. Officers pulled him from the car and found he had no pulse. 

Two officers then administered CPR, after which Tuscano started gasping for air. Medics transported him to a local hospital with serious injuries. He is said to currently be in stable condition. 

The officers have not been identified, but the Gwinnett County Police Department said the following of the incident: “The swift actions of these officers probably meant the difference between a serious accident versus a traffic fatality.” 

No additional information has been reported about the incident at this time.
