7-Year-Old Girl Injured in Bibb County Hit-and-Run Crash in Macon, Georgia
Shortly before 5 p.m. on November 3, 2018, a 7-year-old girl was standing at the edge of her home’s driveway on Saint Charles Place in Macon. A southbound car struck the girl in the 4000 block of Saint Charles Place and kept traveling south.
The girl was transported to a local hospital with injuries. She is reportedly in stable condition. Her name has been released by local media but withheld from this story for privacy reasons.
The driver is still at large. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the collision and is asking anyone with information to call (478) 751-7500 or 1-877-68CRIME. Authorities believe the vehicle involved is a four-door Honda or Nissan.
Vehicle accidents in Bibb County have seen a dramatic increase in the last several years, according to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In 2012, a total of 858 accidents occurred in the county, leading to 220 injuries and 17 fatalities. The total number of accidents actually dropped the following year, to 696, but the number of fatalities grew to 31, which was the highest number of traffic deaths in Bibb County during a five-year period.
After 2013, vehicle accidents in Bibb County skyrocketed. In 2014, 2,547 accidents happened in the county, leading to 689 injuries and 23 deaths. By 2016, a total of 7,617 accidents occurred in the county, which resulted in injuries to 2,144 people and in the deaths of 28 people.
