One Dead, One Critically Injured After Wreck in Dooly County, Georgia

DOOLY COUNTY, GA. – November 3, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, one person is dead and another is critically injured after a wreck on Interstate 75 in Dooly County, Georgia.*

At approximately 5:50 p.m. on October 31, 51-year-old Cleland Franklin, of Vienna, Georgia, and 44-year-old Denys Perry, of Cordele, Georgia, were pulled over on I-75 North in Dooly County. For unknown reasons, their vehicle was parked in the left emergency lane near mile marker 109 of the interstate. The two were standing outside their vehicle, when a Ford Focus struck them from behind. 

Franklin died at the scene. Perry sustained serious injuries and was transported to a hospital in Macon, Georgia. She is reportedly still in critical condition. A third person who was riding with Franklin and Perry was reportedly not injured. The driver of the Focus, 22-year-old Julie Phillips, of Madison, Georgia, was also not seriously injured. 

It is not yet clear how the accident occurred. The Georgia State Patrol’s fatality investigation team is investigating and has not yet released additional information. Inclement weather has affected the investigation, Troopers said, and it is not known at this time whether charges will be filed against Phillips. 

Less than an hour before the wreck, two other vehicle crashes occurred at nearly the same location of I-75 South. One of these wrecks involved three vehicles and began with a vehicle that stalled in the middle lane of the interstate. Four people were reportedly injured and transported to Crisp Regional Hospital and Macon Medical Center. The second wreck involved a side-swipe collision between a car and a truck pulling a trailer. No injured were reported from this crash.
