Head-On Collision in Walton County, GA, Kills Both Drivers

WALTON COUNTY, GA. – October 31, 2018 (waltontribune.com) A head-on collision October 31 in Walton County, Georgia, killed both of the drivers, according to an online news story from waltontribune.com.*

At approximately 8:20 a.m. on October 31, 17-year-old Chealse Lockhart, of Good Hope, Georgia, was driving a 2003 Ford Escape westbound on Georgia Highway 186 in Walton County. About two miles north of Good Hope, Lockhart attempted to negotiate a curve in the roadway and crossed the centerline, striking a 2014 Chevrolet Sonic head-on. 

Lockhart was transported to Piedmont Walton Hospital, then transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She died from her injuries at Grady Memorial. The driver of the Chevrolet, 24-year-old Ashley Allen, of Mansfield, Georgia, died at the scene.

Georgia State Patrol, Walton County Fire Rescue, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, and Walton County EMS responded to the crash. Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the collision and has not yet released additional information. Troopers do not believe drugs or alcohol were to blame. 

Walton County is located in the northern portion of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of more than 90,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 20, U.S. Route 78, and U.S. Route 278. 

According to data collected by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, during the time span of 2012 to 2016, the highest number of vehicle fatalities in Walton County, Georgia occurred in 2016, when 16 people died in motor vehicle accidents. Almost 25 percent of those fatality accidents involved alcohol or excessive speeding. Two of the people killed were pedestrians.
