Georgia Truck Driver Involved in Fatal Florida Accident

JAY, FL. – October 30, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a Georgia truck driver was involved in a fatal vehicle accident October 30 in Florida. The accident took place at a peanut processor in Jay, Florida.*

On the morning of October 30, Anthony Mincey, of Georgia (age and city not reported), drove a semi-truck loaded with peanuts to a peanut processing facility on State Street in Jay, Florida. The cargo of peanuts was unloaded, and Mincey received a communication to pull the truck forward. At the time, 59-year-old Craig Sullivan, of Atmore, Florida, was underneath the semi-truck, clearing debris from the undercarriage. 

Mincey did not realize Sullivan was under the truck and started driving the semi forward, running over Sullivan. Sullivan sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida, where he later died. 

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident and has not indicated whether charges will be filed. It is not clear who gave Mincey the communication to begin pulling forward or whether anyone on site knew that Sullivan was under the semi-truck. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information has been released at this time. 

Jay is located in the Florida Panhandle and is about 150 miles from the Georgia border. The city is located in Santa Rosa County, Florida, and has an estimated population of less than 600. Though the City of Jay is small, it has a large agricultural presence in the state of Florida and is home to the annual Jay Peanut Festival, held every fall.
