November 04, 2018

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK. – October 29, 2018 (krmg.com) According to an online news report from krmg.com, a broken wheel from a semi-truck caused multiple accidents and one fatality October 29 on Interstate 40 in Oklahoma. Authorities are looking for the driver of the semi-truck that lost the wheel and asking for the public’s help.*

At approximately 5 a.m. on October 29, a semi-truck traveling on Interstate 40 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, somehow lost a wheel assembly. The broken wheel struck another semi-truck and caused a series of additional crashes on the interstate. Oklahoma Highway Patrol responded to the scene and found a wrecked pickup truck, SUV, and BMW sedan.

The pickup truck had a shattered windshield and extensive damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle. The SUV had overturned on the interstate, and the BMW was significantly damaged. Troopers found one person dead at the scene, a female passenger in the pickup. She has not been identified. It is not clear whether anyone else was injured. None of the other people involved have been identified.

Authorities do not yet know what caused the wheel assembly to fly off of the first truck, but they believe all of the subsequent damage was caused by the broken wheel. At this time, Oklahoma Troopers are seeking information from the public about the driver of the semi-truck that lost the wheel and encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or any of the resulting crashes to contact the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. No descriptive information about the truck has been released to the media.
