Pickup Truck Rear-Ends Tractor, Injures Man in Statesboro, Georgia

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on October 27, James Boyett, of Statesboro, was riding a 1958 Ford 801 Powermaster tractor southbound on Rocky Ford Road in Statesboro. Just south of Oak Grove Church Road, a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck rear-ended the tractor. Boyett suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital by family members. The tractor, which was hitched to a rotary mower, was damaged.

The driver of the F-150 pickup, 35-year-old Charles Cannon Williams, of Statesboro, was not injured. The truck, owned by Farmer’s Furniture, sustained moderate front-end damage. Investigators said Williams was traveling at a faster speed than Boyett and hit the tractor at the top of a hill. Williams was cited for following too closely. Georgia State Patrol is still investigating the accident.

The October 29 crash was the second involving a tractor and a truck in Statesboro in less than two weeks. On October 20, 21-year-old Cole Austin Lott, of Statesboro, was riding a 1977 John Deere tractor on Harville Road in Statesboro and was attempting to turn left into his driveway. A pickup tried to pass and struck the tractor.

Neither Lott nor the driver of the pickup, 26-year-old Michael Taylor Baggott, of Statesboro, sustained serious injuries. Lott said he had a “follow truck” behind him with flashing lights, but Baggott tried to pass both in a no-passing zone. Baggott was cited for the incident.
