Trucker Struck, Killed on I-75 in Whitfield County, Georgia

October 31, 2018

WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA. – October 25, 2018 (suwanneedemocrat.com) As reported online by suwanneedemocrat.com, a driver struck and killed a trucker October 23 on Interstate 75 in Whitfield County, Georgia. The driver has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide.*

At approximately 8:20 a.m. on October 23, 51-year-old Denton Augustan Edmond, of Jacksonville, Florida, was diving a semi-truck on I-75 South in Whitfield County. One of the tires on his truck blew, and Edmond pulled into the emergency lane near mile marker 327 to inspect the vehicle. He had placed safety triangles around his truck and was standing outside it when a Nissan Altima veered into the emergency lane and struck Edmond.

Edmond sadly died at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, 42-year-old Ontaya Michelle Brooks, of St. Louis, Missouri, reportedly lost control of her vehicle for an unknown reason before the crash. The police report listed fatigue as a possible reason for the loss of control. Results of a blood analysis are pending.

Brooks was transported to Hamilton Medical Center then discharged and arrested. She has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to maintain a lane and has been released on a $4,000 bond.

A passenger in Brooks’s vehicle, 25-year-old Amber Williams, of St. Louis, was also transported to Hamilton Medical Center and discharged. Officers discovered a small amount of marijuana on Williams’s person, and she was charged with possession of less than one ounce of marijuana. She was released on an $802 bond.

Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the accident and has not released additional information at this time.
