Trailer Carrying Truck Crashes Down I-24 Embankment in Dade County, Georgia

DADE COUNTY, GA. – October 26, 2018 (newschannel9.com) According to an online news report from newschannel9.com, a trailer hauling a truck ended up crashing down an embankment October 26 on Interstate 24 in Dade County, Georgia.*

Early in the morning hours of October 26, a pickup truck with a trailer hauling another pickup truck was traveling eastbound on I-24 in Dade County. Near mile marker 166, the trailer somehow broke loose, and the driver of the pickup crashed into a guardrail on the right side of the interstate. The trailer and pickup it was carrying crashed down an embankment and came to a rest off the edge of the interstate. 

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and officials said no one was injured. The driver has not been identified. Crews responded to the scene to lift the trailer and truck from the embankment, during which time several lanes of the interstate were closed. As of 9:30 a.m. that day, one lane was still closed. Driver were encouraged to use a different route if possible. 

It is still not clear how the trailer broke away from the truck. Authorities are investigating the incident and have not released additional information at this time.

The fatal crash rates in the U.S. are highest when measured both by population (10.3 deaths per every 100,000 people) and by registered vehicles ( 1.24 deaths per every 10,000 registered vehicles). The U.S. also has the fifth-highest rate of motor vehicle deaths based on miles traveled (1.10 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled).
