Cumming Woman Killed in Head-On Collision Forsyth County, Georgia

FOSYTH COUNTY, GA. – October 24, 2018 (forsythnews.com) As reported online by forsythnews.com, a woman from Cumming, Georgia, was killed October 24 in a head-on vehicle collision in Forsyth County, Georgia.*

The crash occurred during the morning hours of October 24. According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, an eastbound 2001 Toyota Sequoia crossed the centerline of Jot Em Down Road and struck a westbound Honda CRV head-on. Upon impact, both vehicles traveled off the roadway and came to a rest in a nearby yard. 

The driver of the Honda, 71-year-old Barbara Morgan Fowler, of Cumming, died in the crash. Her husband, whose name has not been released, was also in the Honda and was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. His current medical condition is not known. 

The occupants of the Toyota sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment. Investigators are performing a toxicology analysis on the driver of the Toyota, the results of which are pending. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office noted that the driver did not show signs of intoxication at the scene.

Traffic along Jot Em Down Road was temporarily suspended to allow crews to investigate and clear the wreckage. Forsyth County authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the collision and have not released additional information at this time. 

According to information from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Forsyth County has seen a major jump in vehicle accidents in the last several years. In 2012, only 39 vehicle accidents occurred in the county. By 2016, that number had increased to 5,911 accidents. But while the total number of accidents has risen, the fatality rate has decreased. The 39 accidents in 2012 led to 22 deaths. In 2016, 11 people died in the 5,911 accidents
