Three Semi-Trucks Involved in Fiery Collision in Adel, Georgia

October 30, 2018

ADEL, GA. – October 24, 2018 ( As reported online by, three semi-trucks were involved in a fiery collision that occurred October 22 on Interstate 75 in Adel, Georgia.*

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on October 21, a semi-truck traveling southbound on Interstate 75 in Adel, Georgia, rear-ended another semi-truck. Upon impact, the second truck flew across two lanes of the interstate and crashed into a concrete barrier. The force of the crash with the barrier ignited the second truck in flames and sent pieces of concrete flying, one of which stuck a third semi-truck. The third truck was traveling northbound and sustained a broken windshield and front-end damage.

None of the drivers involved have been identified. Georgia State Patrol said the driver of the first semi-truck was distracted before the crash. This driver was the only person who sustained injuries, and incredibly, he was not seriously injured. He was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment and has reportedly been charged with distracted driving and following too closely.

The Adel Police Department, Adel Fire Department, Adel EMS, Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Department of Transportation, and Georgia State Patrol responded to the scene. The second truck was tightly packed with carried cargo, which made it more difficult for firefighters to remove items and completely extinguish the fire.

“From insultation on power poles, to large barrels they store whiskey in, household items, cabinets, a lot of stuff that was in boxes — it was packed so tight it was taking a lot to get [the fire] put out,” said Alex Ortiz of the Adel Fire Department.

Ortiz added that it was a “miracle” no one was seriously hurt and that the late hour of the crash and unpopulated roadway probably contributed to that fact.
