Two Motorcyclists Collided in Floyd County, Georgia

FLOYD COUNTY, GA. – October 23, 2018 (northwestgeorgianews.com) Two motorcycles collided October 23 in Floyd County, Georgia, according to an online news story from northwestgeorgianews.com. Injuries are not yet known.*

The crash occurred at approximately 1 p.m. on October 23 in front of a Chevron station located on Gadsden Road in Floyd County. Both of the motorcyclists were reportedly traveling toward Cave Spring at the time, and it appears one of the motorcycles turned out in front of the other at Angel Road. 

Floyd County Police said both riders were conscious when emergency responders arrived at the scene, but officers could not comment further on the motorcyclists’ medical conditions. They were both transported to a local hospital by Redmond EMS.  

Floyd County is located in the northwestern portion of the state of Georgia. It has a population of approximately 97,600, and its major roadways include U.S. Route, 27, U.S. Route 411, State Route 1, State Route 100, and State Route 293. 

According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, vehicle accidents in Floyd County have climbed unsteadily in the last several years. In 2012, a total of 3,300 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 826 injuries and 16 deaths. Those numbers fell slightly during the next few years and rose again in 2015. A total of 3,542 accidents occurred in Floyd County in 2015, leading to 894 injuries and 14 deaths. 

During a five-year period between 2012 and 2016, the highest number of fatal vehicle accidents in Floyd County occurred in 2016, when 18 people died in motor vehicle crashes. The fatal crashes that year included three pedestrians and two motorcyclists.
