Truck Crashes into Police Car, Two Work Lifts in Tennessee; Five People Injured

CLARKSVILLE, TN. – October 23, 2018 ( Five people were injured October 19 when a truck crashed into a police vehicle and two work lifts in a construction zone in Clarksville, Tennessee. The story is reported online at*

The accident occurred shortly before noon on October 19 at the intersection of Riverside Drive and College Street in Clarksville. A Ford F-450 traveling south on Riverside Drive through a construction zone drove out of the designated road path, crashing into a patrol vehicle and two work lifts before coming to a rest. 

The driver of the F-450, 31-year-old Justin Clark, was transported to Tennova Medical Center and was later released. Two men were on each of the lifts that Clark hit. One of the men, 41-year-old Gerald Buck, was life flighted to Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee, where he was treated and released. 

The other three men on the lifts — 43-year-old Robert Bartz, 59-year-old Charles King II, and 26-year-old Charles King III — were transported to Tennova Medical Center. Bartz is said to be in critical condition. Charles King II and Charles King III were treated and released. 

It does not appear an officer was inside the patrol vehicle at the time of the crash. It is not yet clear why Clark drove out of the road path. Tennessee authorities are investigating and have not released additional information about the accident at this time. 

In Georgia, more than 20,000 vehicle accidents occurred in work zones across the state in 2017, and 55 people died in those accidents. According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, 78 percent of the people who die in work zone crashes are the driver or passenger of the car involved.
