Truck Driver Hauling Eggs Dies in Ohio Highway Crash
DELAWARE COUNTY, OH. – October 22, 2018 (nbc4i.com) A semi-truck hauling a load of eggs October 22 crashed on a highway in Ohio, according to an online news report from nbc4i.com. The truck driver was killed in the truck crash.*
Shortly after 7 a.m. on October 22, 68-year-old Glen G. Buettner, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, was driving a 2007 Freightliner westbound on S.R. 37 in Delaware County, Ohio. Buettner was carrying a load of eggs in his truck and attempted to negotiate a curve in the highway. The semi-truck left the roadway and turned onto its side, striking a utility pole and spilling eggs onto the ground nearby.
Emergency responders pronounced Buettner dead at the scene. Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident and has not released additional information at this time. They do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
According to data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, more than 34,000 fatal vehicle crashes occurred in the United States in 2016. These accidents resulted in the deaths of more than 37,000 people. The fatalities averaged 11.6 per 100,000 people and 1.16 per every 100 million miles traveled in the United States.
On a state level, the fatality rates ranged from 4.0 per every 100,000 people in the District of Columbia to 23.1 per every 100,000 people in Mississippi. The rates also ranged from 0.66 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled in Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Rhode Island, to 1.88 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled in South Carolina.
Ohio’s 2016 fatality rates, according to the IIHS data, were well below the national ranges. The state’s individual data shows 9.7 deaths in 2016 per every 100,000 people and 0.95 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled.
