Georgia Father Promotes Safe Driving in Memory of Son

October 27, 2018

ATLANTA, GA. – October 22, 2018 ( A Georgia father is promoting safe driving practices in memory of his son, who was killed in a vehicle accident in 2014. Details of the story are reported online at*

Mike Lutzenkirchen lost his son, Philip, in a single-vehicle accident that occurred in 2014 in LaGrange, Georgia. Philip was a passenger in the vehicle, and both he and the driver were impaired at the time of the crash. Philip played football at Auburn University and wore the number 43, a number that has become a symbol to Lutzenkirchen and the start of a safe-driving initiative in memory of Philip.

Lutzen kirchen founded the 43 Keys Initiatives after his son’s death and has been traveling around the county promoting the practice of taking 43 seconds to complete a safe-driving checklist before each trip in a vehicle. The checklist includes the following tasks:

  1. Clear Head: Ensure you have a clear head – one that is not affected by alcohol, drugs or emotions.
  2. Clear Hands: Have clear hands – Send a text, adjust the radio and put all devices away so you can drive hands-free.
  3. Clear Eyes: Set your sights on the road ahead. Do not look to the side at a passenger or down at a text.
  4. Click It: Finally, click your seatbelt. It’s the law and could save your life.

Lutzenkirchen introduced the 43 Keys Initiative October 22 at the Arthur M. Blank family office in Atlanta, Georgia. The Blanks are supporting the program by awarding Lutzenkirchen’s foundation with a grant of nearly $240,000. For more information about the Initiative, visit the link above.
